Our Partnership

An exciting initiative by cweedband.com and CDPlus Canada kicked off its official launch during a Press Conference on Aug.27, 2008. The "Aboriginal Artists Music Rack", which has been set up in select CDPlus stores across Canada, features top-notch aboriginal recording artist titles from across Canada!

"This is an exciting chance to provide visibility and a dedicated platform to a group of musicians typically under-represented into today's marketplace. At CDPlus, we have always felt that our unique focus on bringing music that goes beyond the Top 40 to communities located outside of major urban centers is our greatest strength. Working closely with partners such as Errol Ranville and cweedband.com, APTN and NewCap Radio who are passionate about getting this music into the hands of the people who need and want to hear it is very refreshing. Together I am certain we can make this growing relationship a huge success.” said John Toews of CDPlus.

To top it off, the "Aboriginal Artists Music Rack" is being sponsored nationally by Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN) and Newcap Radio, both of whom will play a major role in television and radio support over the next 2 years.

Jean Larose, CEO of the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network said, “The artists are called upon every time a major celebration is being planned and they always step up to the plate, this project is an opportunity for the Aboriginal media to return the support.”

Newcap Radio, which has a syndication of over 80 radio stations across the nation.

We are getting to know the players in the Aboriginal Music Industry and intend to do our part in supporting Aboriginal Music initiatives in the communities that our radio stations serve”, says  Glenda Spenrath, Director of Operations for NewCap Radio. “We are excited about this partnership and want to ensure that this Aboriginal music distribution project is a success.”

Ads for the rack commenced Sept.15 on all NewCap radio stations across the country! APTN commercials will start on Oct.1, 2008 and will feature a "CD of the Month" campaign.

There's something for every music lover on the Aboriginal Artists Music Rack, including Country, Rock, Country-Rock, Pow wow, Fiddling, Hip Hop, Roots, Gospel, Blues ......the list will grow! The CD selection will change as new titles and artists get added to the rack on a monthly basis. Taken away will be the CD titles that aren't selling in comparison to their counterparts. This encourages our CD shoppers to keep checking back for more great aboriginal artists' recordings!

It is interesting to note that cweedband.com, an independent distributor of aboriginal music, is opening the rack to all Labels who are interested in promoting their aboriginal artist's music in a high profile environment such as the Aboriginal Artists Music Rack. cweedband.com does not ask for exclusive distribution of any artists' CDs.

"This rack isn't about competition or power or exclusitivity with Labels or anyone else. It is solely about the aboriginal artists getting their music out there, in a mainstream environment, for the public to experience.." said Errol.

In his 35 years in the industry, never before has there been an opportunity like this. Traditionally, the only way to purchase an aboriginal artist's music CD is at one of their shows, Ma and Pa stores, or through mail order.
