The Latest CD - Redemption....

National Chief Phil Fontaine and Errol
Winnipeg, MB 2008

C-Weed's most recent CD, Redemption, was officially released on Aboriginal Day, June 21, 2008 in Yellowknife, N.W.T. The title track of the CD is also entitled "Redemption", and was inspired by National Chief Phil Fontaine and his work with the Residential School Truth & Reconciliation Commission. The nationally televised apology by the Prime Minister of Canada, Stephen Harper, on June 11, 2008, acknowledged and accepted responsibility for the atrocities endured by the aboriginal peoples in the former residential school system. Marking an integral awareness of aboriginal history and an important beginning to a healing process. For aboriginal people; and for all Canadians. The track "Redemption" follows the difficult journey of the aboriginal people, and embraces the beginning of a "brave new world".

Remembering '45's....

Errol Ranville's Song Lyrics....

Redemption

They silenced the drum and songs we sung
before I was born.
Felt the weight come down on me when I spoke
in my own tongue.
It feels like someone's watching me
There's ghosts in these walls
Feels like I've been here before,
and it makes my skin crawl.

It's time to tell our story for the whole world to see.
It's time to teach our children
and re-write history.

One hundred years, a thousand tears
Complete humiliation.
One man speaks after all these years
For Truth and Reconciliation.
A new day dawns in a brave new world
Sweet taste of redemption.
Run as one, sound the drum
For a nation, within a nation.

It's time to tell our story for the whole world to see.
It's time to teach our children
and re-write history.

I Wanna Fly

I'm gonna lay my weight down at your feet,
and rest here for a while.
I'm feeling low, Lord, I feel defeat,
I feel I've just walked my last mile
so I'll rest here for a while
I'm hiding from the street.

I've been to church, Lord, I've been to school
but I could not find you there.
So I defied them, I broke all their rules.
I just didn't seem to care
When I couldn't find You there,
Oh Lord, I've been a fool.

I wanna fly like a free bird flies,
There's a blue sky calling me.
And I know that I long to be
in the shadow of your smile,
You were with me all the while
Waiting, patiently.

Some call it karma, some folks call it fate,
They say one day you'll understand...
When you're down it's all one big mistake,
Lord I finally understand
You can take me by the hand
And lead me on the way.

I wanna fly like a free bird flies,
There's a blue sky calling me.
And I know that I long to be
In the shadow of your smile,
You were with me all the while
Waiting, patiently.

In the shadow of your smile
You were with me all the while
Waiting, patiently.

Run as One:

Held my tongue in a code of silence
Assessed the worth of the Oka violence
It's been a fight for what is right
Ancient treaties denied.

1990 called it Indian Summer
You can feel the beat of a
distant drummer,
So strong with pride, side by side
We share the social changing tide.

Run as One now, it's begun
Feel the beat of a different drum
And close our ranks, and give our thanks
To the Spirit up above.

It's our children's children I am thinking of,
They've got to know they can rise above
One hundred years,
Of quiet fear
And press for the mark.

You've got to Run as One, now,
It's begun
Feel the beat of a different drum
And close our ranks, and give our thanks
To the Spirit up above.

You've got to Run as One,
It's begun
Feel the beat of a different drum
And close our ranks, and give our thanks
To the Spirit up above.

Magic in the Music

Too many miles, too long on the road
Sixteen hours, with five more to go.
A dozen one night stands in the two weeks we've been gone.
No you don't understand,
I've been at this way too long.
Just one last tour.
Tasting the lure of the road....

But wait, listen.
I can feel it comin' on.
The reason we all do it now, it's comin' on real strong.

Oh wait
that's it...
Listen for the magic in the music.
Oh wait
that's it...
Listen for the magic in the music.

The crowd hustles in
The show's about to begin.
They're playing our song
Guess it's time to go on.
Those first few minutes
Always scare me half to death.
My body's a shakin' and my hands are filled with sweat.
Just one last tour.
Tasting the lure of the road.
But wait, listen.
I can feel it comin' on.
The reason we all do it now, it's comin' on real strong.

Oh wait
that's it...
Listen for the magic in the music.

Listen for the magic in the music
Take it to your soul, you'll never lose it.
Treat it like your best friend,
Don't abuse it,
And we live for the magic in the music.

Too many miles, too long on the road
Sixteen hours, with five more to go.
A dozen one night stands in the two weeks we've been gone.
No you don't understand,
I've been at this way too long.
Just one last tour.
Tasting the lure of the road.
But wait, listen.
I can feel it comin' on....

Oh wait
that's it...
Listen for the magic in the music.

Listen for the magic in the music.

Bringing Home the Good Times

Living on long distance love
greasy burgers and fries,
Living on dreams of folks I idolize.
Trying to keep my head on straight
Spending money that we ain't made
Hopin' to keep it together while we're
Waiting for that break.

But I'm bringing home the good times
Gonna hold that lady of mine,
I'm gonna take her in my arms and make up
for all lost time.
I'm bringing home the good times
and the moment I've been dreaming of,
The thrill of her touch I miss so much
Spend the whole day making love.

Three months we've been out here
Living on smoke and cold beer,
Doing without the comforts of home and
All that I hold dear.
They tell me it's going to pay off high
They tell me we're going to reach the sky.
There's times I lay awake at night
Asking myself why.

But I'm bringing home the good times
Gonna hold that lady of mine.
I'm gonna take her in my arms and make up
for all lost time.
I'm bringing home the good times
and the moment I've been dreaming of,
The thrill of her touch I miss so much
Spend the whole day making love.
